Before You Come In

Preparing for your appointment

A typical GP appointment is 10 minutes long. Coming prepared helps both you and your GP make the best use of that time. Here is how to get ready.

  • Write down your symptoms before you come — when they started, how often they occur, and anything that makes them better or worse.
  • Bring a list of all medications you are currently taking, including any supplements or over-the-counter medicines.
  • If you have had recent test results from a hospital or another practice, bring them with you or have them to hand.
  • Think about the most important issue you want to discuss and lead with that — if you have several concerns, let reception know when booking so extra time can be allocated.
  • Don't be embarrassed — your GP has heard everything before. The more openly you can share, the better the care you will receive.
  • If English is not your first language, let us know and we will arrange appropriate support. Dr Rajinder speaks Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Burmese, Bengali and English.
During Your Appointment

What to expect

Your GP will listen to your concerns, ask questions, and may carry out an examination. They will then discuss options with you and agree on a plan together.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. You are always welcome to bring a friend, family member, or carer for support. If you need a chaperone during an examination, please ask — this is your right and we are happy to arrange it.

What if I need more than 10 minutes?

If you have multiple concerns or a complex issue, please mention this when booking so we can schedule a longer appointment. Trying to cover too many problems in a single short appointment can lead to things being missed.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Yes. Everything you discuss with your GP is strictly confidential and protected by law. Information is only shared with other healthcare professionals involved in your care, and only with your knowledge and consent in all but exceptional circumstances.

What if I disagree with my GP's advice?

You always have the right to ask questions, seek a second opinion, or discuss alternatives. Good healthcare is a conversation. Please never leave an appointment feeling unheard — speak up, and we will do our best to address your concerns.

Can I request a specific GP?

Yes. You can request to see Dr Rajinder Singh Saluja or Dr Angad Singh Saluja when booking. Continuity of care matters to us — having a GP who knows your history can make a real difference, particularly for ongoing or complex conditions.

When to Seek Help

Choosing the right care

Not every concern needs a same-day appointment. Knowing where to go for different problems helps keep the NHS running well for everyone.

🟢
Book a routine appointment
For non-urgent concerns: repeat prescriptions, chronic disease reviews, general check-ups, mental health support, or symptoms that have been present for a while without worsening.
🟡
Same-day or urgent appointment
For concerns that need attention today but are not life-threatening: sudden new symptoms, worsening infections, significant pain, or a child who is unwell and getting worse.
🔵
NHS 111 — call or go online
For urgent medical questions when the surgery is closed, or if you're unsure what to do. NHS 111 can direct you to the most appropriate service, including out-of-hours GP care.
🟠
Minor Injuries Unit or Urgent Care
For minor injuries such as sprains, small cuts needing attention, or minor fractures. Quicker than A&E and more appropriate than your GP for these issues.
🔴
A&E — Accident & Emergency
For serious, life-threatening or significantly disabling conditions that cannot wait, such as a suspected heart attack, stroke, severe injury, loss of consciousness, or difficulty breathing.
🚨
Call 999 immediately
If someone's life may be at risk — chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, collapse, suspected stroke, uncontrolled bleeding, or any situation where every second counts.

Online Consultations

Can't make it in person?

You can submit a non-urgent consultation online via our patient portal at any time. We aim to respond by the next working day. This is ideal for medication queries, minor symptoms, and follow-up questions — but please do not use this for emergencies.
